This PAT5 has been nicely upgraded and fully serviced. It now works great and sounds considerably better than an original PAT5 does.
No more speaker thumps! This PAT5 has a special relay controlled power muting circuit that keeps the preamp's outputs quiet until the turn-on transients have passed. At turn-off, or any loss of power, the relay board mutes the outputs quickly, before the power supply voltage sag can cause problems.
Brand new Line Stage PCB's with top quality components. These are double side PCB's with ground planes for lower noise and better RF rejection. The new circuit uses modern NE5532 Opamps meaning much lower distortion. Metal film resistors, for the lowest possible noise and all film caps or COG caps in the signal path provide incredible sonic fidelity. The low-pass filter is designed around Opamps buffers for much lower distortion than the original design.
This PAT-5 also has a completely new PHONOZ phono preamp, this is a greatly improved design with lower noise and more accurate equalization. It has gold-plated jumper-selectable capacitive loading, gold-plated jumper-selectable gain (30, 33, 36, 39, and 42 dB at 1 kHz), and gold-plated jumper-selectable high-pass filtering. The PAT5 allows for use of two turntables.
All new Gold-plated RCA Jacks installed in the rear panel. Much sturdier construction than the originals were.
An Improved Power Supply has been installed. It has dramatically lower noise (less than 1 mV RMS of noise in a 20 kHz bandwidth) and far better regulation. The specs are more than 10 times better than the original power supply. Better power means better sound.
All controls were flushed and then treated with Deoxit.
The wiring diagram shown (image # 5) depicts only one way to hook up the preamp. However, you do not have to use the speaker/amplifier terminals seen in the diagram on the left side of the PAT5. If you prefer, you simply hook up the preamp in the traditional fashion where the speakers are driven directly from your amplifier and the preamp outputs directly feed signal to your amplifier. Using the method shown in the diagram does expand the ability of you 2 channel system, allowing you to run two pairs of speakers. (A, B and A+B) This type of setup also allows speakers to be "off" for headphone only listening.
A digital copy of the original operating and assembly manual and for each of the installed upgrades is included on a CD (pdf format) for your reference needs
The control knob at the selector has a scratch, there are a few small marks here and there around the unit. As the photos show, this is still a very nice and presentable PAT5.
